These past 2 weeks have been amazing. I was in Portugal for our fall retreat at En Vivo, the next weekend we had a ladies breakfast, and this past weekend I had a staff retreat in Segovia!! It’s safe to say I have been keeping busy.
God has been so present and showing up in really neat ways. I am going to stick with the metaphor theme and share one I thought of when I was having silent reflection on the beach in Portugal.
If you haven’t heard the song, “Oceans” by Hillsong United, I encourage it. There is a line that says, “Spirit lead me where my trust is without boarders. Let me walk upon the water….wherever you would call me.” As I was sitting there, listening to the song and looking out into the ocean, I figured out just how true that was. Our faith is JUST like the ocean. We start at shore. The waves are strong and they only get bigger. Sometimes, the waves knock you down. The waves carry you back but don’t stop you. As we go deeper into the ocean, the waves aren’t as big. Storms come but there is a calmness.
The deeper into the ocean we go, the waves thrash less, BUT you have to pass through the waves first. How can you go deeper into the ocean if you never crash through a couple waves? You may get pulled back to shore or further than you were but God promises us he will carry us through.
This reminds me of Luke 8 when Jesus is in the boat and the storm barrels through. The disciples are so worried that they will die and Jesus, with one word, calms the storm. If Jesus is always metaphorically on the boat with us, then won’t he always calm the storm? Do I trust Him enough to take me deeper into the water? That everything will be okay? Are we willing to tackle and be persistent through the waves close to shore in order to gain more trust? To let our full potentials be used.
Jesus, my prayer is that I would continue to be brought deeper. That I would learn more about you through trials. That your goodness would prevail.
